Book Review: It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

From the minute I started this one, I was hooked. There’s so much to take in. The revolving door of feelings, from humour to sexiness, to shock and tension, to heartbreak and absolute adoration. Your emotions are in high from page one.

Lily Bloom is the girl we should all hope to be. She’s strong and independent, but not in a stand-offish way that so many other leading ladies are portrayed. She has a sweetness in her, a kindness that doesn’t seem to end.

Ryle Kincaid stole my heart. Charming, beautiful, and a neurosurgeon?! I mean, what more could you ask for? The guy has his stuff together! The only problem, he’s a “one night stand only” kind of guy. Red flags start to pop up around the edges of my googoo eyes right about now.

Atlas Corrigan, oh how I love you!! This boy stole my heart and never gave it back. The sweetness in him, the kind and caring attentiveness. And let’s not forget those eyes! What an amazing way to describe someone’s eyes, and know every reader will absolutely have the right, and identical, image.

The progression of the storyline was flawless. It was real, it was absolutely believable, and the way Hoover intertwines the past and the present is excellent. The “diary” entries to bring the past into the story without having some kind of thought bubble, staring off into space moment really worked for me.

The topics covered throughout this story, they really are TRIGGER WARNING LABEL material. I know that’s a bit of a spoiler, but this could really be hard for a lot of people to read. I do appreciate that the topics were shown from two different perspectives though, the past experience from the outside looking in, and then first hand. It really gave a new angle that I’ve never considered before, and I can’t say enough for how tactfully that was done.

I’m so glad to have found and read this story. I personally have never dealt with the issues within this novel, but to have experienced them through the eyes of the characters within the story, and then to have gone through the authors note at the end, there’s new light been shone on the matter. I’m absolutely taking a page from Lily’s book here, and I’ll be finding myself a local charity to support with more regularity than in the past.

5 stars, without a doubt. This should 100% be read by every person who comes across it.
