Book Review: The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

Writer's picture: OineyOiney

I really enjoyed this one. I’ve seen it reviewed so many different times, all with various takes and perspective. The ratings are all over the map! I wanted to give it a go, and I’m glad I did.

Through the bulk of this one, I found myself wondering what end we were supposed to be getting to? Clearly there was something I was missing? Alicia is silent after being found with her murdered husband. She’s tried and found guilty. Throughout the entire process, she never speaks a word. Theo wants to be the psychotherapist to help her. Sounds decent enough, but why make it into a novel? And then things started to, um , unravel, a little bit. I found myself saying “Wait, hold on, what?” on multiple occasions. I started to get paranoid right along with Alicia, feeling the hurt of not being supported and believed. I started to try to solve the mystery aspect in this one, clearly ending up completely wrong lol. Theo seemed to be really dedicated to helping Alicia, and we finally seemed to be getting a bit of a view as so what really happened. In the end, I was jaw drop shocked! Wow! I didn’t see it coming at all!! The ending felt a bit odd to me, but the story in general didn’t follow any rules, so why should the ending?! Great story, super fast paced. Definitely recommend!! #thesilendpatient #alexmichaelides #bookreview #bookblog #oineyreadsanother
