Book Review: The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty

Writer's picture: OineyOiney

3 women, 3 stories that, seemingly, have zero connection. Each woman has some sort of life altering experience. The death of a child, a husband who is in love with another, and a husbands earth shattering confession. No matter how hard I tried, I could not figure out how each of these would tie together. The mystery of it had me pulling my hair out! That is a clear indication of a great book!

I loved the characters in this one. The three main characters were so deeply layered, each chapter had me looking forward to learning even just a tidbit more about them. Tess was so funny, with a quick one liner of inner dialogue that had me in stitches. Poor Rachel was so damaged, she was overwhelmingly jaded, without even realizing it. Cecelia was a prime example of OCD if I've ever seen it!

I really loved the writing style here. All three women had their story told from their own point of view, and I feel like that was a great way to bring a level of detail to each that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. Seeing the overall story from three very different directions, it really brought a great edge to it.

In the end, I was floored by the twist. I didn't see it coming in the least! It had me all kinds of emotional. The stories didn't tie up in neat little packages, and I felt like that was a great way to finish. The epilogue was really great too, bringing out information that was mind boggling! A lot of "If This, Then That", which made me so angry at how events unfolded, knowing things could have ended up vastly different for everyone involved. I had to remind myself that this was a work of fiction, I was that wrapped up in the story line!

In the end, a solid 4.5/5*. Some of the characters inner dialogue got a little repetitive, but otherwise, it was a great read!
